Description of the Program

The program aims to train mental health professionals in trauma-informed therapy and equip them with the necessary knowledge and competencies.

Target audiences and admission requirements

The training is for mental health professionals interested in acquiring knowledge and competencies for trauma treatment, such  as:

Psychologists
Psychotherapists
Mental health counselors
Psychiatrists
Family Therapistsς
Postgrad trainee counselors & psychologists
Graduate Students in Psychology and Counseling Programs

Aims and objectives

Based on recent research on the targeted treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and complex post-traumatic stress disorder (C-PTSD), the main objectives of the training are to:

Provide the context for participants to become acquainted with trauma-informed therapy (APA, 2017).
Examine the etiology and neurobiology of Acute traumatic stress, PTSD and Complex PTSD.
Provide the framework for learning and practicing the competencies for treating psychological trauma (APA, 2015).
Present the phases of trauma therapy and facilitate participants to apply them in case studies or with their clients.
Facilitate understanding of presenting symptoms in the light of dissociation.
Explain Parts Work and supervise participants while practicing with their clients.
Delve deeper into the role of the trauma-informed therapist, the value of the therapeutic relationship, and the importance of self-care.
Recognize and apply the key components of resilience and posttraumatic growth.

Duration

120 hours of training


70 hours face-to-face meeting*
(10 meetings in Athens )

Fifty (50) hours for Individual assignments and preparation:

Personal study
Sessions with clients
Preparation for role-plays
Writing the case study
Entries in the reflection journal

Training material

Training material is provided at each meeting.

Assessment

Assessment is ongoing during the training program.

Specifically, it includes:

15 client hours with the aim of applying trauma informed therapy (10%)
Online participation (10%)
Discussion and reflection on assigned readings (10%)
A reflection log presenting personal insights and experiences throughout the training program (10%)
Group consultation with program supervisors (10%)
Role play demonstrations of trauma-informed therapy sessions (20%)
Final assessment: A description of a client case and oral presentation on the case (30%)

Required Qualification

Participants are required to do at least 10 hours of personal therapy during the training program.

Certification

Upon successful completion of the program, participants receive a Certificate from NBCC-Greece, a Registered Credential Training Provider of the National Board of Certified Counselors-International (https://nbcc.org/)

* To complete the training and receive certification, only two (2) absences are allowed.
